Daniel Witmer Obituary

WITMER Daniel Alvin Witmer, 64, of Seven Lakes West, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012, surrounded by his "girls" after a courageous battle with cancer. The family will host visiting hours on Sunday, February 5, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Columbus (Just south of I-270). Dan precedes his wife of 43 years, Marcia; daughters, Kerry Kopelcheck and husband, David of Dublin, Ohio and Stephanie Halas and husband, Michael of Canton, Ohio. The light in his eyes were his five grandchildren, Grace, Alexandra and Samantha Kopelcheck, and Andrew and Lauren Halas. He precedes his brother, David Witmer, and wife, Chris of Littleton, Colorado; and sister, Sue Parker, husband, Ron of Adrian Michigan. Dan was born in Toledo, Ohio to Russ and Eleanor Witmer. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserve and served as a Naval Seabee in the DongHa and DaNang regions of Viet Nam. He later graduated from Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, Ohio and pursued a successful career in Hospital Systems Consulting which led to residences in Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Michigan and North Carolina. Dan was an honest man with a quick wit, a love of woodworking and golf, and a passion for his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Health Hospice, 251 Campground Road, Pinehurst, NC 228374 or Our Lady of the Americas Poor Box Fund, PO Box 519, Candor, NC 27229. Witmers - I am so sorry to hear about Dan. I supported him about 25 years ago at Deloitte and recall wonderful memories of him. My prayers and thoughts to your family.

Dear Marcia, Kerry and Stephanie,

Just heard the news... and I'm so sorry for your loss :(

This poem has comforted me through the passing of many people that I've held dear and I hope it does the same for you...

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered “Come to me”.

With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts
to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Marcia, Kerry and Stephanie,

Suzy and I were stunned to read about Dan.

While we have obviously done an abysmal job of keeping in touch, no amount of time or distance could ever make us forget the wonderful nature of your husband and father. We remember his million-dollar smile and effervescent personality.

We can still see the enthusiasm he poured into dancing at Suzy's 30th birthday party. I think he was doing The Twist on our living room carpet when he sprained his knee that later needed surgery.

Please know that you are in our thoughts and that we will always remember Dan with much affection.
