David Byers Obituary

Byers, David E.
1929 - 2019
David E. Byers, 89, of Westerville, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2019, surrounded by his family, who rejoiced he was heading home to Heaven. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; an engineer by profession who built a loving family with Sally and beautiful things with his hands in his woodshop. Born in Glouster, Ohio, on August 30, 1929, Dave was raised by Ernest and Susanne Byers as the youngest of 5 sons. He graduated from Glouster High School and Ohio University with a degree in civil engineering, and served in the United States Army in Washington, DC during the Korean War. His first job after the army, and for the next 37 years, was with Ohio Bell (later AT&T) in Columbus. He met his wife Sally (Owen) while working at Ohio Bell, and they married Nov. 19, 1955 and settled in Westerville, where they raised their family. He retired in 1991 to travel with Sally, enjoy grandchildren, build toys and a two-tiered garden pond -- and deepen his walk of faith. He was active in Scouts from boyhood through his own boys' involvement, and was a lifelong Republican who served on the Franklin County Central Committee and at a grass-roots level, campaigning for local candidates such as Alan Norris, Sam Devine and a young John Kasich. Dave was predeceased by his parents and brothers Bill, Ted, Robert and lastly Dick, who passed away in January. He is survived by Sally, his wife of 63 years; children, Amy (Tim) Pressler; Dan; Tim (Mary); Matt (Shellie) and Emily Gorup; grandchildren, Abby, Sara, Erik, Andy, David, Nate, Zach, Ryan, Megan, Eric, Charlie, Caroline and Josh; and great-grandchildren, Ella, Lilly and Amy. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Dorothy Byers and Jeannine Byers; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Friday, March 22, from 4-7 p.m., in the chapel at Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Road, Westerville 43082. The funeral will be held there also on Saturday, March 23, at 10 a.m., officiated by Tim Byers, Tim Pressler and Pastor Frank Karl. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr., Suite 170, Columbus, OH, 43231, which took such tender care of Dave in his final days. We thank the staff at Parkside Village; and Penny, Brandy, Amina, Melissa, Deborah, Evelyn, Abbi and Deonna -- the ministering hospice angels who took such good care of Dave and allowed us to spend our time talking, singing and praying with him. Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Dear Sally and family,
I want to send my deepest
sympathies to you and your family. Dave was such a beautiful person, comical at times. Loved talking with him about politics. He will be missed by all. God will provide for him now.
Love,
Thelma
