MaryBeth, Bones, Chad and family. My condolences to all of the Caldwell Family. There are no words to express the sadness and loss of such a great man. I had the great honor of knowing Dave for 30+ years and always enjoyed his jokes, laughter and comments. I will forever hold the memories in my heart of my union brother and my dear friend. Rest in peace my friend and God bless all of you.

To Mary Beth, Chad, Bones, Matthew and all of Dave's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing Dave with us. He devoted so much time to the labor movement and working families. Sometimes God calls special people to Heaven for special projects. He must have a greater need for Dave than here on earth. May you be comforted in knowing that God will be there to comfort you during these trying times and after. Lean on Him and loved ones for support and may you get peace. I worked with Dave at Buckeye Steel. We had so many laughs together. I know he is smiling down at us right now.

There are people who reach beyond perceived boundaries to extend a hand in healing, hope, and humanity. These people are true leaders in what is best in us. Dave Caldwell was one of these people. Who would have ever thought that steelworkers would become allies and then even friends with "hippie tree-huggers" like me. The alliance and friendship that built among us made me a better person and gave my hurting heart a glimmer of hope for our human family. During this time where there is so much that seems to be pulling us apart, Dave's life and legacy reminds us to be willing to stretch into uncomfortable places to help reweave the torn fabric of our society. He was a leader in what is good and true and best in us. Thank You Dave for the difference you made in my life, in the alliance between unions and environmentalists, and in the world. Your spirit, heart, and dedication will live on in all of us that you touched.

I did not know Dave had stayed so involved in the Union, plus rise to the rank and importance I read in his death notice. I do remember his involvement in the union from the time my Dad, Verlin " Sparky" Sparks was President of the local union at Buckeye Steel. Then, Dave, was a union member and a good friend to my family. Others have mentioned him being gentle and a good man; that's how I remember him, too. I also remember him, as a young man, adoring his two sons, Chad and Albert.
Well, life ends, but sometimes too soon, as seems the case for Dave. But what a life- one he must have been proud of. To Dave's family - Please accept my sympathy for the loss of your loved one. I hope the good works done during his lifetime will be good comfort to you.

Deepest condolences to the Caldwell family. I had the pleasure of serving with David on the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation Board of Directors, and often sat right beside him at our meetings. David was a tireless advocate for safety in the workplace and spoke passionately and ever effectively on behalf every worker in Ohio. May he rest in peace.

Dear Marybeth, Chad, Bones, Matthew and family Even though we are miles away in Arizona, our hearts have been with you since we received the call from Dave and Sherry. Life is not always fair, and this is truly one of those times. It is so sad for us knowing that we have lost not only Billy, but now Dave, too. Dave Caldwell was a great labor leader, and a special person who truly cared about trying to make the world a better place not only for working people, but for all those who are oppressed and forgotten in our society. I was stunned to learn of Dave's passing, leaving us far too soon. I was always appreciative of Dave's help and advice on my campaigns. and the support that he and the USW gave me.
