I have never met David, but have spent many hours with Lyla as she released my "trigger points" through her healing touch and prayers. My heart goes to the Merz family.

May God keep you in the palm of his hand.

To the entire Merz family,
It seems like only yesterday that we moved in next door to David and Lyla. Right away they shared their love and concern as well as things from the garden. David was always so helpful even without us having to ask. If he saw a need he'd pitch in and help. He's loaned my husband his ladder, light, helped change a car battery; you name it he's done it. He often would cut the little patch of grass between our houses just because. It was on our side, but he'd cut it anyway. 4th grade camp this year wasn't the same without him. My husband really missed him not being there.
I can remember the last time I talked to him. He was sitting in the garage watching the boys play basketball. He was so upbeat and positive. He allowed me to pray with him.
He took our son Benjamin to a baseball game and every Thursday, he'd take the "threesome" (Phil, Andrew and Benj) to Woodward Park for indoor hockey. He was such a blessing to us and we have so many fond memories of him. I can see that Victoria, Phillip and Andrew have inherited their father's love of rocking! And that's a good thing. When I look out my kitchen window and see one of them rocking, I'll have to smile and think of David. We will miss him tremendously. You have been and shall continue to be in our prayers.

David, you will be missed. You were one of a kind; devoted to your God, family, friends, Country, and job. Always a hard worker, doing overtime to support your family; build up and maintain your home, etc. You are one more wonderful reason why we desire to go to Heaven. One more good friend and co-worker who has gone before us to Heaven, leaving a Godly example to follow while we're here on Earth.

Dear Lyla, children and the Merz family. Your neighbor, the Bendolphs asked me to pray with you and our church family (Christian Apostolic) prayed also for David. I have never met you personally but in prayer I have. The God of all comfort is with you and shall pour out His mercy, grace and love to all of you in the coming days.

I’ve known Dave and the family since our sons; Nick and David were in kindergarten together, and also my daughter Sierra with Victoria.

Dave was always funny, friendly, but above all, he stood as a pillar to his family. I know there were many fun times Dave spent with our boys on camping and fishing trips. Loving memories that will endure.

Dave will be missed.

The Merz family is in our prayers,

Dave was a dedicated, hard working person. He was also bright and cheerful. It's amazing how he could keep on working AFTER his diagnosis. I tried to tell him
several times that he should take it easy, stop and smell the roses. He didn't have anything
to prove to me or anyone at DFAS /
Department of Defense. He was
tough, smart and he loved his job. He was very patriotic and took pride in providing support to our troops engaged in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Global War on Terror and our DFAS mission.

He and I shared comments on various subjects whenever we had time, family, sports, politics, sciences, music, history and computers were our favorite topics. We have lost another good worker/soldier and a friend, but, I know we’ve gained another angel to watch over us.

To Dave’s family – Do not be sad. Dave will always be with you. He loved you all so very much!
