Don Weiser Obituary

Weiser, Don E.
Don Edwin Weiser, 92, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, he was a '46 graduate of Central High School and subsequently obtained his degree in engineering from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. Don began designing a passionate career in playing the trumpet professionally at a very young age. While serving in both the United States Navy as a Radio Operator and subsequently a Staff Sargent in the US Marine Corps, he played in both Armed Forces bands. While nurturing his career in music, he was an engineer for Rockwell International where he helped to design and manage the introduction of the B-1 bomber. After 34 years, he retired to become a full-time musician. Admiringly nicknamed "Sweet Lips" by other pros in the industry, he specialized in Big Band, Jazz and Dixieland music. He directed, and was a member of dozens of Columbus based professional groups throughout his life. His musical style of performance was a fusion of Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis, allowing him the ability to parlay his passion to create his lifestyle, to include being asked to tour with Frank Sinatra's band in the 50's and playing with the famed Lawrence Welk Show's, Myron Floren. Don was a 60-year member of Sunrise Lodge #783, F.&A.M., a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Columbus and an active member of Aladdin Temple Shrine where he was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 8, as well as many other clubs. He was an avid sailor who loved the water. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Jefferson Taylor and Amanda Hartzler, parents Mildred and Charles Pavey and his wife and the mother of his 3 daughters, Ruth Weed. He is survived by daughters, Pamela Weiser, Gayl Weiser and Tracey Bennett (Jay). He leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Edward Moore, Krista Parrish, Daniel Moore, Don Bennett, Matthew Murphy (Paige) and Eric Bennett; 2 great grandchildren, Alexis Moore and Hunter Parrish; and is also survived by 2 sisters, Nancy Ealy and Sarah Jane Pavey; and many nieces and nephews. Due to COVID, a private service will be held on January 4, 2021 at Tidd Funeral Home, Hilliard, Ohio. The omission of flowers is requested.
