LAKELAND - Ruben Martinez, 56, was born on January 3, 1957 in Hidalgo County, TX and passed on September 24, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center due to respiratory failure.
Ruben was the lead baker for Guest Services at Florida Southern College and was of Catholic descent.
Ruben is survived by his life partner, Tim Wheeler, his parents, Isabel and Barbara Martinez, his brothers, Juan Jose Martinez, Ramiro M. Martinez (Teresa), and Isabel Martinez, Jr. (Criselda), his sisters, Mary Brosy (John) and Tina Tisler (Dan), numerous nieces, nephews and his loving K-9 companions, Brendle, Kohl, and Brutus.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, from 5-7pm at Heath Funeral Chapel. A service will be held on Friday, September 27, at 11am at Heath Funeral Chapel with a reception to follow in the Tribute Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA, 5850 Brannen Road, Lakeland, FL, 33813.

Ruben was very blessed to have a wonderful Florida family and friends from all walks of life wherever he lived. I am comforted by all of you, and by the great years we had together, and will miss him tremendously
