Donovan McKinney Obituary

McKINNEY Donovan Ewing McKinney. Service for Donovan E. McKinney, age 84, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL HOME, Bluffton, OH. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada, OH. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. He died April 3, 2007, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, OH, after several months of illness and declining health. He was born October 23, 1922, in Allen County, OH, to Donovan S. and Lucile (Ewing) McKinney. On June 4, 1950, he married Roberta June Manges and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Joyce Lyday, Gainesville, GA, Jean (Chris) Jones, Columbus, OH, Janice (Greg) Adams, Springfield, OH, and Donovan R. (Joan) McKinney, Columbus, OH; and grandchildren, Jonathan Lyday, Beth Lyday, James Lyday, Bobby Jones, Tommy Jones, Theodore Adams, Jane Adams, Molly McKinney and Ellie McKinney. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Myda Jane (Wayne) Badertscher, and Marilyn (Ron) Heldman, Pat McKinney; and brother-in-law, Dean (Sue) Manges; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ned McKinney and sister Lorella McKinney. He was a teacher, administrator, and lifetime educator over a period of 45 years. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Ohio Northern University and his Master's Degree from Ohio State University. He taught in Pandora and served as Superintendent in Waldo and Bellville. In 1959 he moved his young family to Columbus, OH, when he took a position as Assistant to the Superintendent with Southwestern City Schools, in Grove City OH. He and Roberta remained in the Columbus, OH area after his retirement. He was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church in Columbus, OH. He was also an avid fan and follower of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
