Elbert DuBenion was my great uncle, my mother's uncle. I met him a few times in life, only because I lived in NY state. But I always heard about him while growing up and was told what a great football player he was for the Bills. It was always nice to have someone "famous" in the family that I could say I was related to. May you RIP uncle Elbert and say hello to my Grandad, your brother. Until we meet again, Rest in Heavenly Peace.

I played softball, and basketball with Duby, Tom Decker and all of the other FBI agents in Westerville. Was watching the Buffalo and Houston football game today and thought of Duby. Googled his name and was sad to see of his recent passing. My condolences to his family and friends.

I played Offensive Right Tackle in front of the Gold Dust Twins, Elbert Dubenion and Willis Taylor on the1957 Bluffton College football team. I returned from 3 years in the Army in Korea. Duby had returned from an Army tour in Germany and was starring on the team during my absence. The first day back I was stowing my equipment in a locker and feeling like a stranger. Duby walked up and asked me if he could take the locker next to me, Wil Taylor did the same. These guys accepted me right away. I injured my shoulder and had to sit out the first game. The next game with Heidelberg I was again riding the bench. In the 4th quarter, we were losing and I couldn't take it anymore. I asked coach Mast to put me in. When I checked in Duby told the quarterback that he was going to call the plays. he and Wil both ran behind my blocking and moved the ball downfield for a touchdown. We continued to move the ball but ra out of time. The following Monday I came tp practice; a manager told me that Dunenion and Taylor had told the coach that they wanted me to start. I did, the rest of the year. We won the MOL Conference championship. Elbert had every right to be proud of his accomplishments, he was a star. Yet he was a humble and friendly man, I will always be proud to call him my friend. My sincere sympathy to his family and loved ones.

Very sad at the news of your loss. My late father was an acquaintance of Elbert when both men were a part of the group who used to sit and visit at the Westerville Community Center. Dad spoke highly him. May he rest in peace.

My father would take us to see Elbert play football at Bluffton College and BC always won thanks to Elbert. When the Bills were on TV we always rooted for Golden Wheels and loved when the announcers mentioned Elbert played at Bluffton. He gave my family so many happy memories.

Bless Elbert and his family.
