Elena Canini, age 72, passed away after a brief illness on September 19, 2018. Eucharistic minister and longtime member of Holy Spirit Church. Elena loved her family, life and faith. She was an exceptional cook and welcomed all into her home. No one left without a good meal. She took great pride in creating a beautiful garden each year. In addition to a lovely variety of flowers, she grew an abundance of vegetables, herbs and rare Italian figs. She was selfless in her desire to give, many times to complete strangers in need. She was born in Frosinone, immigrating to Canada in 1968 and then Columbus, Ohio in 1974, where she and her husband settled. Preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Evangelista, and her parents Pio and Maria Vitella. Survived by daughter, Maria Canini; granddaughter, Alexandra (Joshua) Ebrahimian; brother, Gino (Anna Maria) Vitella; sister, Natalia Buzzeo; sister-in-law, Donata (Gerardo) Lombardi; numerous nieces and nephews in the US, Canada and Italy. Friends received Monday from 11-11:30am at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel, 6440 S. High St., on the grounds of St. Joseph Cemetery, where Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Entombment St. Joseph Cemetery. Father William Arnold, celebrant. A celebration of life will be held after the funeral Mass.
