Elizabeth Magnuson Obituary

MAGNUSON Elizabeth Tighe Magnuson of Upper Arlington passed away surrounded by her family on January 11, 2008. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on March 22, 1922 to James William Tighe and Margaret (nee Kelley) Tighe. She attended St. Vincent de Paul parochial and high schools in Mt. Vernon. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary of the Springs College in 1943 and married Dr. Robert Hubbell Magnuson on August 2, 1943. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2001. Elizabeth was an accomplished homemaker and cook. With her husband, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home. They were noted for their wonderful parties. In addition, they traveled extensively all over the world. Until her death, Elizabeth greatly enjoyed her long time membership with the Peanuts, a social bridge group. Elizabeth was a parishioner of St. Agatha Church for 54 years. She joined St. Timothy Catholic Church in 2001. She volunteered at St. Agatha parochial school during the years her children attended the school. Her memberships included The Columbus Art Museum, Columbus Athletic Club and Scioto Country Club. She was a charter member of the Women's Board of the Columbus Museum of Art. She was a member of the Starling Ohio Women's Club and the Women's Auxiliary to the Columbus Academy of Medicine. She is survived by her children, Cynthia (James) Apostolakis of Naples, FL and Harbor Springs, MI, James (Toni) of Columbus and Harbor Springs, MI, Ellen (Daniel) Huyett of Birdsboro, PA, and R. Tighe (Margaret) Magnuson of Lake Forest, IL; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, James K. Tighe, of Mt. Vernon, OH. Her family wishes to thank Jerry Womick, Cathy Haldeman and all of the staff at Riverside ICU for their loving care of Elizabeth. Friends may call at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, on Monday, January 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 10 a.m. at St. Timothy Church, 1070 Thomas Lane, Columbus, where the family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Msgr. John Johnson, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Columbus. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Robert H.
