Ethel Mary Kernan

KERNAN Ethel Mary Kernan, age 96, of Delaware, Ohio and formerly of Akron, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011. Born in Akron to the late Alex and Julia Varga, she was a graduate of Akron South High School. Ethel was an executive secretary at Polsky's Department Store in Akron for many years. She married James V. Kernan in 1944. Ethel was very active with the Fairlawn Park Garden Civic Center. She loved flowers and won many blue ribbons for her floral arrangements. She was a member and past president of the St. Sebastian's Women's Club. In 2002, Ethel moved to central Ohio to be near her family and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim, and her parents Alex and Julia Varga. Ethel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Fred Winther, of Powell, Ohio; her grandson, Matthew (Kris) Kovalcik, of Powell; and her three great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Ellie and Mary Kovalcik.
