Dear Dad, Hard to believe it's been six years. At times it seems like just yesterday. You left us on such a beautiful May day. Crystal blue skies with white puffy clouds, warm temperatures and a light breeze. Today I remember that day and see you outside, with a big smile on your face, standing in a stream fishing with your brothers! Sending love to the three DeCola boys! xxxxoooo Suellen and Gary

Uncle Gene - a man that i looked up to for so many reasons. A true sportsman, adventurer, with a dash of daredevil in him. I wanted to be just like you in so many ways. I'll never forget our fishing trips to Canada together. My favorite uncle. I'll miss you, Uncle Gene. Mike

Mr. Decola was my 6th grade teacher at Linworth Elementary in 1960-61. Of all the teachers I ever had from grade school to high school he was my favorite. He brought so many real life experience to the classroom. He sometimes spoke of his career as an athlete but there were so many other anecdotes from his experiences that class was never boring.
I remember one time in math class when we were talking about number sizes and he challenged us with: Do you really understand how large a million is? It is so large a number that it would take you a week just to count to it. Several in the class challenged that so he suggested that at recess we try it. We did and, at the end of the 15 minute period I don't recall how far we had gotten counting out loud number by number, but it was apparent to all including Mr. Decola that it wouldn't take a week!
What a terrific human being!

So sorry to learn of Mr. DeCola's passing. He was, by far, my favorite teacher. I was in his 6th grade class at Linworth ('60/'61). Years later I had the pleasure of meeting him again - and we talked and laughed together. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Sincerely, Carolee Oertel
