Dr. Francis "Frank" O'Hare, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2021 at home in Jupiter, Florida. He was 86 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Theresa O'Hare. Frank is survived by his dear wife of 61 years, Moira O'Hare; sisters, Alicia, Ronnie, and Maureen; and brother, Jim; daughter, Angela; and sons, Frank and Greg and his wife, Kellie; and his grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Colin and Emma. Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, Frank excelled both athletically and academically. Coined affectionately by his family as the "Young British athlete," Frank pursued a professional soccer career with Celtic Football Club prior to discovering his passion for academia and teaching. Obtaining an undergraduate degree from the University of Glasgow, Frank's passion led him to the USA in the 1950's. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, he then matriculated at Florida State University to obtain his PhD. Frank further pursued his academic and professional career at the University of Southern Mississippi as head of the English Department. A prolific author, Frank published numerous academic textbooks earning him recognition as an international authority in his field. Frank concluded his academia career at The Ohio State University, as the Chairman of the Rhetoric and Composition division of the English Department. Forever a Buckeye fan, Frank retired from The Ohio State University in 2000. Never one to miss an academic or athletic event, Frank was omnipresent at all events. Loved equally by coaches, teammates, and their families, Frank became known as "Gramps." Per his wishes, there will be no memorial. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He will be missed dearly.
