George E. "Toby" Tobin

George Tobin Obituary

TOBIN George E. "Toby" Tobin, 86, of Lancaster, died at home December 16, 2005. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a 1938 graduate of Lancaster High School. He spent his work life on Main Street, first as a newsboy then at the Benua and the Roberts clothing stores and the Hickle Company. He retired in 1983. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Panama Canal Zone. He was an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, St. Mary and Fisher Catholic School Boards and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a former president of the Downtown Retail Merchants Association. He is survived by loving wife of 60 years, Lucille; children, Sandy (Tim) Thimmes, Carol (Jim) Kern, Mike (Resa) Tobin, Terri (Robert Burleigh) Kremer, Tom (Barb) Tobin, Tim (Colleen) Tobin, Cathy Welch, Beth (Dave) Medaugh; special in-laws, Francy (Guy) Soule, Bob (Molly) Dittoe; 26 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Alice) Tobin, sisters-in-law, Ann Tobin and Jane Tooill; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by children Don Tobin and Patty Dittoe, son-in-law Jeff Kremer, grandchild Zach Medaugh, parents John and Lola Tobin, brothers Forrest, Robert, John, Donald, sisters Mildred Reynolds and Kate Snoke. Friends may visit from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, and 4-8 p.m. Monday at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME, 222 S. Columbus St., Lancaster. Vigil service will be 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 S. High St., Lancaster, with Fr. Donald E. Franks as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul shop, 424 Locust St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130, St. Mary Church, St. Mary School, 309 E. Chestnut St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130, or William V. Fisher Catholic High School, 1803 Granville Pike, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
