Gerald Fugazzi Obituary

FUGAZZI Gerald Bernhart Fugazzi, 73, of Hilliard, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Mildred (Bultman) Fugazzi. He is survived by his wife, Marilee; and his children, Andrew (fiancee, Kelly), Karen (Cliff) and Daniel (Melissa); grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew, Michaela, Graham, Cydney, Keeley, Burke, Buck and Dillon Horn; brother, Richard (LaVonne) Fugazzi. Jerry graduated from Van Wert High School and The Ohio State University. He spent four years as a fighter pilot in the United States Navy. He had a 32 year career with the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. After retirement he single handed his sailboat "Veracity" for two years, throughout the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Nothing pleased Jerry more than family get togethers where he could catch up on the grandchildren's activities and practice his love of Italian cooking. Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington. Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Brendan Church at 4475 Dublin Rd., Hilliard, Oh. 43026. Fr. Rodric DiPietro will say the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hope Lodge, 11432 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland, Oh. 44106, a facility of the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be sent to www.rutherfordfuneralhomes.com.

Danny, Keran, Andy, & Marilee,

Gerry was the best. When we moved from Kentucky to Columbus in 1976 he single handidly made it feel like home for our family immediately. I have countless memories of hanging out at our house, your house, the Raquetball club, flying R/C sailplanes with Dad & Gerry (and chasing them on the little yellow Honda mini-bike he let us use for years!), eating his hand-made fresh baked bread, eating his great Italian cooking, and mostly learning what a friend and gentleman should be by watching him. I really kind of thought of him as my second Dad - always a hug and a little positive advice. He was a special person, but you know that. I will miss him and I will think of and refer to my time with him often and as I raise my children.

Thanks Gerry.

Hi Fugazzi's. This is my second condolence. Gerry was like a family member to us. He spent time @ our home cooking and making his great 'cross buns' at Easter. He was our 'Best Friend'. He was so supportive during Cliff's illness. I love you, Gerry. May you rest in peace after a tough struggle.

Dear Fugazzis,
I met Gerry when I was 13, so I've known him for 32 years. He and Dad both worked for the Upjohn company ( they retired on the same day!) , and were great pals!
We moved to Columbus, and Gerry welcomed us with open arms. I have so many fond memories of him; sitting at our house, listening to me playing the piano. Teaching us how to make bread. He loved life, and embraced it fully! He was never too busy to stop, and enjoy a moment of life. We need to all learn from him. As I told Danny, May his memory be Eternal. It is in my heart!
Love, Leigh Ann Hieronymus

Dear Marilee and family,

I'm so sorry to hear about Gerry's passing. We worked together for 30 yrs with Upjohn. I replaced him in Wash.CH and he mentored me. He was a dear friend, a fellow golfer, and always upbeat and positive. He will be greatly missed but the memories will be cherished.
