Goldie Vore Obituary

VORE Goldie Vore, age 68, Sunday, April 16, 2006, Akron General Hospital, after a short illness. Formerly of Columbus. Youth leader at the Ohio State School for the Blind (OSSB) for 32 1/2 years, retiring in 1992. In her capacity as youth leader, she will be remembered for the courage and strength that she had for herself and imparted to others. Goldie loved the outdoors, and especially butterflies. She loved travel, friends, family, co-workers, and especially the youth that she worked with at OSSB. Blind since age 8, she took on life's challenges with a confidence and ease that was envied by all who knew and loved her. She was an avid bowler and would beat anyone brave enough to challenger her to a match. Her teammates in softball at OSSB were amazed at her catching and hitting ability, yelling encouragement "Good eye, Goldie!" Preceded in death by father Glenn Vore and step-father Sam McClelland. Survived by Joanne Haines, life partner; mother, Daisy McClelland; sister, Mary Bolyard; brothers, Glen Vore, Jr., Tim McClelland, Danny McClelland, Mick McClelland and Charles McClelland; several nieces, nephews, and close friends. Memorial service 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3100 N. High St., Columbus, OH, where friends will be received 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Ohio State School for the Blind Student Activity Fund, 5220 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214. www.southwickfuneral.com.

I'm remembering the old days, Goldie, when you could mow a lawn as cleanly as anyone with sight. I always admired your positive attitude and how you never let your vision impairment slow you down. Godspeed.
