Hilary Fletcher Obituary

FLETCHER Hilary Morrow Fletcher, wife, mother, friend and director of Quilt National, died on Friday, August 11, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio. She was 64. As director of Quilt National starting in 1982, Mrs. Fletcher placed this biennial international quilt show and Athens, Ohio on the world map as the premier exhibition of contemporary art quilts. Her passion for the art form of quilting began with the first Quilt National Exhibition at the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center in Athens in 1979. She lectured nationwide on the subject of art quilts, raising awareness of the art form. She was appointed to the Studio Art Quilt Association Board in 2005 and was a frequent contributor to quilting publications throughout the world. She attended Chatham College and received a B.A. in Speech from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.A. in Communication Disorders from the University of Wisconsin. She worked as a speech pathologist until 1977. Born in McKeesport, Pa. to the late Rose and Martin Morrow, she is survived by her husband, Marvin; sons, Michael (Ellen) and Jeffrey (Lori); grandchildren, Lindsey, Justin and Matthew; and brother, David. She was a member of the Athens Social Literary Club and Hillel at Ohio University. Service will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hillel, 21 Mill St., Athens, conducted by Rabbi Danielle Leshaw. Interment will be in the Jewish Cemetery in Albany. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Hilary Morrow Fletcher Trust for Quilt National at the Dairy Barn in Athens. Arrangements are by JAGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, Athens.

Hilary was just the best. We met her and Marvin in 1987 at Quilt National, and have always enjoyed such kindness and support from them both. They were a seamless team of blessings for us all. We send you our deepest sympathy, Marvin and your dear family and the wonderful staff at the Dairy Barn. This is such a loss and sadness, but we know she's with you always.

Much love, Jimmy and Susi
