Ida Blankenship Obituary

BLANKENSHIP Ida Harford Blankenship, age 94, passed away May 9 in Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was born on April 14, 1914, in Woodman, Kentucky, daughter of John C. Robinson and Lydia Carolyn Smith Robinson, both deceased. Preceded in death by her husband David Harford Blankenship. Beloved mother of Betty Jo Dempsey (Silas J. deceased), Godfrey Johnny (Sherrill) Blankenship, Wade Harford (Jean) Blankenship, Jimmy Ray (Betty) Blankenship, Shirley Jean (Fayaz) Ammar and David Earl (Barbara) Blankenship. Survived by 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Survived by sisters, Georgia Davis, Mary Ruth Hall, Pauline Miller and Lois Hill; and brothers, John Robinson, Bill Robinson and Marion Robinson. Preceded in death by sisters Hazel Carver, Lilly Belle Ratliff and brothers George Warren Robinson, Charles Keith Robinson and Jimmy Robinson. Ida had the opportunity of seeing many great changes in this world over her lifetime. She lived through 16 Presidents, the Depression, and 3 wars. She knew how to do laundry on a washboard, grow her own food and sew her own clothes. She was witness to such developments as the first picture show and flight both in the sky and in space. She saw the growth of inventions such as television, washing machines, telephones, automobiles and computers evolve and develop. She remembers a time when neighbors were friendly, folks talked to each other in person and the world moved at a much slower pace. Ida was loved by many and her spunk and sense of humor will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Friends may call Wednesday 6–10 p.m., Phelps Funeral Home, 40 Wolford St., Phelps, KY, where service will be held Thursday 11 a.m. Rev. Bruce Hawkins officiating. Interment Mounts Cemetery, Majestic, KY. Arrangements by EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E. Livingston Ave. www.evansfuneralhome.net. Sign the online guestbook at www.dispatch.com/obituaries
