I just heard of Doc's passing. I was a little girl, but remember how nice a man he was. We had a Mare named Brown Turtle. She was I think a 1964 National Reining Champion belonging to Dick and Betty Weisensteins then. She broke her hind leg from a fall on ice hitched to a sled with a gentle stallion named Colonel Mike and Doc and Bertie Mcdannald cared for her at OSU. The leg was not useable but they saved Turtle. She even foaled her first foal in a cast. She managed for many years as our brood mare. Doc was a pioneer Vet and good man. My dad just passed after Doc. I am sure Doc said Hello. God be with your family at this time.

I just found out about Dr. Jim's passing and wanted to express my condolences to the whole family. Dr. Jim took over a vet clinic from my cousin (by marriage) Bertie McDannald. Her mother-in-law, Marie McDannald, was my dad's older sister. My dad was Glenn Huff. We lived on Old 3C south of the clinic and Jim was our vet growing up. The last time I saw him was at my uncle Carroll's funeral. Although I hadn't seen him in years, Dr. Jim told me I look so much like my mom that, even though he wasn't sure if I was Janet or Nancy, he knew I was "one of Glenn and Ros Huff's girls." Dr. Jim was an amazing man and it was an honor to know him.

Doc will be missed by many. I have memories of him making 11pm colic calls to my barn, in the middle of summer, with his shorts and boots! He saved my Ivan many times and it was hard to make the final call to Doc. He was so compassionate and was one of a kind! I will miss him dearly. Doc, tell Romie we say Hi and have a great reunion with him!

Thank you doc for mentoring me along my journey. I met you when I was just 15, and learning to work around racehorses, and you encouraged me to pursue my dreams in the equine industry, as well as that of a veterinary technician.

Thank you again for all you taught me, I know there are many of us who miss you!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Henschen family. They say horse people are crazy and we mostly are when our animals need us the most and Doc was always there for me, night or day, to catch my tears falling and say "it will all be ok"! He has helped me with all my horses for so many years. What a kind man! I will miss him so very much. Rest in peace Doc JH.

Jim cared for our horses for around 35 years. He was more than our vet, he was our friend. He spent a lifetime taking care of God's creatures. We're certain that God has special plans for the man that took special care of his creatures in this world.
We miss him now and will forever.

To Jean, Jody & Jill, You were blessed with a father who had a true passion for his work. We have been clients and friends of Jim & Jean for many years. Will sorely miss the many years of being at the Knox County Fair and getting to visit with them as Doc did his job for the State Racing Commission. We have truly lost one of the greatest vets in the world. The knowledge he takes with him is priceless. We will miss him beyond words.

Doc was an inspiration. I rode with him to gain large animal veterinary experience way back as an undergrad. Watching him interact with both his patients and the people was a privilege. I will never forget how he explained to me how important it was to help the folks who helped him when he was a new vet. God bless, and your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Doc horse ownership in Sunbury will NEVER be the same without you! I so enjoyed our chats together in the barn comparing animal and people medicine as we did so many times. You hold a special place in the hearts of my family on this small farm and a piece of you will always live on out here. Our boys always loved the way you cared for our horses especially the 32 year old mare I have been worrying about for years. You were such a great member of our community and I know you will be missed by countless individuals. To your family... I pray the memories of such a great gentleman help to ease the pain of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Doc Henschen was our Vet for several years and his knowledge saved our mare and her unborn baby. He was caring, personable and encouraging. I have very warm memories about Doc Henschen. Not only did he get my mare in foal twice when she shouldn't have, but he also saved her life after we moved to Fl. After an unhelpful vet visit from the Fl vet, I called Doc and we discussed her situation and he told me what to do...he literally saved her life. Rest in peace, my friend.
