I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I met Jim at a Rotary Club meeting years ago and was glad to know he was a camp counselor at Camp Willson. I enjoyed my time with him. My prayers are with you.

Our deepest sympathy to Jim's family. Jim was a dedicated employee of the YMCA in his young adult years and we appreciated his love for Camp Willson and all the campers who crossed his path there. He touched many lives and will always be remembered.

Over 3 decades ago, I too, was a student in his mathematics classes in junior high. I also served as as statistician for his basketball teams. It's difficult to explain how special teachers can change your life. Mr. J. T. Mahoney was one of those teachers. From him I gained confidence and learned some important lessons in life about winning, losing, and learning. I learned much mathematics but even more about life. I will be forever grateful and want his family to know how much he meant to me. I regret I did not learn of his passing in time to tell them in person.

I was a student in Mr. Mahoney's algebra and geometry classes in junior high school and I consider him one of my most memorable teachers. Aside from being a knowledgeable and talented educator he was also quite the raconteur and from time to time entertained his classes with stories from his youth. I last saw him about ten years ago in a Kroger's(maybe 25 years after graduating from junior high school) and we both recognized each other right away. As I was in a bit of a hurry we spoke only briefly but afterward I regretted not exchanging contact information with him since I would have wished to speak with him at more length on a number of topics. I regret that I read this obituary notice too late to attend either the visitation or funeral mass. My deepest sympathy to his extended family and if any of his relatives would contact me I would be interested in hearing about how he spent his later years.
