James Shiley Obituary

Shiley, James
1940 - 2020
James R. "Jim" Shiley, died peacefully at Pickering House, Lancaster, Ohio on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 following a brief battle with COVID-19. He was born on April 11, 1940 in Tiffin, Ohio to the late C. Richard and M. Kathryn (Shumaker) Shiley. He was a 1958 graduate of Hopewell London High School. Jim received his Bachelor of Agricultural Science from The Ohio State University and was a lifelong Buckeye Fan. He also received a MBA from Capital University. Jim married the love of his life, Nancy, on June 18, 1961, and she preceded him in death. Jim loved to work on projects and built houses for his children as well as countless renovations and decks for family and friends. He loved to figure out a challenging building problem and often did it in a unique JimBuilt way. He loved cooking and eating food, and continued to collect recipes long after he couldn't cook any longer. Jim loved to tease and often referred to himself as "mean, bad, and nasty." He loved to be with his family and friends and to make others laugh. We will miss his love and laughter and will treasure many memories. Jim is survived by his children, Doug Shiley, Beth (Paul) Reichert, and Kathy Shirley; grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda), Nicolas, and Jerod Shirley and Moriah, Erin and Isaac Reichert; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Faith Shirley; sister, Nancy Short; and nephews and nieces, Steve (Laura) Short, Sue (Bob) Snyder, and Scott Short; as well as several great nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Shiley, son-in-law Daniel Shirley, and parents Rich and Kate Shiley. The family would like to thank FairHope Hospice and the staff of Pickering House for their kind and compassionate care of Dad. Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements by DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME. Friends who wish to contribute in Jim's memory are asked to consider Lithopolis United Methodist Church's Habitat for Humanity Project, PO Box 42, Lithopolis, OH 43136. Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
