1954 - 2019
Janet Ann Barr of Dublin, OH passed away on February 2, 2019 after a sled riding accident with her grandchildren. Born Janet Ann Medwid, March 19, 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA to Andrew and Mercedes Medwid. She moved to Lexington, OH when she was 4. She was preceded in death by Andrew and Mercedes Medwid, brother-in-law Jim Barr and niece Sarah Medwid Gorsline. Loved by so many, she was an avid reader, swimmer, loved the ocean and the beach, and gardening. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and recently retired from pharmacy in 2013. She is survived by her husband, Joe; two daughters, Jennifer (Nick) Dean and Beth (Craig) Krenzel; 5 grandchildren, Brayden, Ellie, Austin, and Colt Krenzel and Nolan Dean; and brothers, Grady (Cindy) and Mike (Margo) Medwid; and sister, Susan (Andy) Francis. Family will receive friends at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 W Olentangy Street, Powell, OH on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 10 AM at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, Ohio with Father Jim Black as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent to www.rutherfordfuneralhomes.com. Janet was my swim coach and instilled a love of swimming in me forever. She literally saved my life when I was 10. I was choking on a butterscotch candy at a swim meet. I ran to my mother who was working the concession stand, in tears I couldn't speak~ my mom didn't know what was wrong but as I ran away in a panic, Janet had been nearby and noticed I was in trouble, Janet ran after me and grabbed me and asked if I was choking and I could only nod yes! She started pounding me on my back until I swallowed that lodged candy~ Janet did save my life! I will never ever forget her, her kind smile and hearty laugh or the incredible athlete I've always known her to be and even her wonderful, gracious family that I grew to love from Walnut Hills~

I was actually thinking of Janet, who I haven't seen since she graduated high school, on Sunday while watching the Superbowl. I saw a few of the players offer their game to God and wondered if they were genuine or just something they do. Janet was the first person that I ever knew to pray and do the sign of the cross before every time she swam competitively. She was a wonderful role model when I was a young girl. I am saddened by her death, but I know she has found herself in the presence of the Lord she so faithfully prayed to and offered the glory for her skill. Thoughts and prayers for the Medwid and Barr families. I am sure she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. I see her sweet smile never changed!
