Jeffrey J. Pound

Pound Pastor Jeffrey J. Pound, founding pastor of Spring Hills Baptist Church in Granville and life-long minister of the Gospel of Christ, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio. A service celebrating the life and ministry of Pastor Pound will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013, at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, Ohio. His son, Pastor Tom Pound and his brother, Pastor Kevin Pound will officiate. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will present military funeral honors following the funeral service at the church. Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Spring Hills Baptist Church. Pastor Pound, 69, was born December 5, 1943, in Columbus, a son of the late Beman and Mae (Nichols) Pound. He earned a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and a master's degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He had a passion for evangelism, pastoring and planting churches, first at Barren Run Baptist Church in Hodgenville, Kentucky from 1972-75, then at First Baptist Church in Ft. Payne, Alabama from 1976-80. From 1980-86, he served as a missionary to the Philippines with International Mission board of the Southern Baptist Convention and in 1987-88, he served as Evangelism Director for the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio. In 1989, he became the founding pastor of the Spring Hills Baptist Church in Granville. He was also an avid golfer. Surviving are his wife, Cathy (Swaffar) Pound, whom he married August 10, 1968; a daughter, Cynthia Ann (Doug) Martin of Birmingham, Alabama; his sons, Thomas Curtis (Tracy) Pound of Newark, Daniel Richard (Brittany) Pound of New Albany, David William (Niki) Pound of Lewis Center; his beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth Pound, Maddison Martin, Olivia Pound, Morgan Brooke Martin, Ella Pound, Landen Pound, Gavin Pound, Cadence Pound, Cameron Pound, Mason Pound; brothers, Beman (Pat) Pound, Jr. of Upper Arlington and Kevin Curtis (Patti) Pound of Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Dennis William Pound. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Ministry at the Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, Ohio 43023.
