Jerry was so kind to me when I joined the Thompson family. He always had a smile for me (and for everyone) and I will never forget how helpful he was to me at our daughter's wedding, when my own husband had been injured in a fall. As I read through the tributes, and hear family stories about him, I feel even more sad that my time in knowing him was relatively short (6+ years). I was hoping for many more years. But I know that he is at home with our Lord, resting in the arms of our loving God, and if there is any helping up there to do, he is surely doing it. He always had a helping hand and a ready smile to give. My prayers are with Nancy and the boys and Olympia, and precious little Noah. Their loss is the greatest of all.

Nancy, Scott & Greg,
What a life saving joy it was for me to have known Jerry. At the worst time of my life Jerry and you all took me into your lives and gave me the strength to carry on, eventhough you were going through some tough times also. The nights we spent on the Disciple Bible Study in your home were truely the closest to heaven here on this side of heaven. I owe so much to Jerry and you guys. I know that Jerry is resting in Jesus' arms and I pray that He comforts you all in this time just as He has in the past. God bless you all.

Met Jerry on our Emmaus Weekend in 1991. He was always a ray of sunshine. Kothing seemed to bother him. We had some good talks together over the years. I knew he would always be there if I needed him. This year Kathy and I visited a church in Hilliard called Northwest Chapel. Knew noone there. We enter as the early church was ending. The doors open and there was Jerry with a smile and wanting a man's hug. God Bless you my friend. What a lost...

We had wonderful times at Our Savior here in Newton, IA. The Kastengren family was always at the center of things. I am saddened that Jerry has left this world, but as we all know, the sadness those of us left behind feel is far surpassed by the joy in Heaven when Jerry arrived home. Nancy, I have thought often of you and your family. I'm sorry that it has taken this news for me to contact you. May the Lord bless you with his Peace.

One of the kindest men I have ever known. My heart breaks for all those who knew him because all that knew him loved him. Will never forget his smile.

There is no doubt that Jerry heard Jesus say "well done, good and faithful servant" the moment he got home!! He will be missed by so many but he will be busy in heaven--giving huge bear hugs and agape to everyone! Bet the kids in heaven love him!
Nancy, you and your family are loved and are in our prayers! We are so sorry and pray that the HOPE we have in Christ will comfort you.
Love--Jim & Cathy Stich

Mr. Jerry was an absolutely incredible person and will be deeply missed. I enjoyed seeing him everyday throughout my high school years. I even rode the bus a few times my senior year just to see him. I was always one of the first ones out to the bus and he would stop talking to the other drivers to let me on the bus and talk to me. He always wanted to hear about whatever was going on in my life. I remember being so upset when he fell ill, I even sent him a get well card, and before I knew it he was back at work as if nothing had happened. I really loved him. He was genuinely happy everyday and he never forgot me even after I graduated. He really loved all of us and enjoyed working everyday to see us; which is an incredibly special quality. All the students he had are blessed to have known such a wonderful man. I am thankful to have known him and will really miss him.
