Jim Murphy Obituary

MURPHY Jim Murphy, age 60, of Upper Arlington, suddenly at home on March 4, 2008. Jim was funny, smart, kind and gentle. He was an excellent artist, an amazing musician, and an inspiring teacher who tapped into talent that many of his students did not previously know they possessed. He adored Kim and she adored him. People say a happy marriage takes work, but they are wrong. In the words of Jim's idol John Lennon, all you need is love. He was in love with each of their six children and fiercely proud of each one for the gifts and grace of that child, not as an extension of himself. Jim is predeceased by his mother and father Harriet and Paul Murphy. He leaves to mourn him his wife, Kim (Halliburton-Cohen); sons, Camp (Anna), Mac (Robin), Patrick and Jacob Cohen; and daughters, Kate Ketcham and Claire; his granddaughter, Seda; brothers, Larry (Elke), Terry, Bob, and John (Anne); and sisters, Molly Lewis (Mike), Katie Dunn (Mike), Patty Gallardo and Marge; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joan and Bill Halliburton; sister-in-law, Keri Evans; many nieces and nephews and his best buddy Duffy. Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 3 p.m., where the memorial service for Jim will start at 4 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Innocence Project. Sign the online guestbook at www.dispatch.com/obituaries

Kim and Family,
I only knew Jim a short time, for six art classes. What a kind and warm man, who truly loved sharing art with the class. My prayers are with you and your family in your loss.

Dear Kim,
(and all Family)
I know you are missing Jim and trying to figure out what it all means-
Sometimes just knowing how much he was loved helps a little. I always enjoyed working with Jim, as I knew we would be laughing the whole time. One story in particular will live on with me ;-) so know he will always be affecting somebody, somewhere!

To the Halliburton-Cohen-Murphy Family- From all of us @ Jenny we send our best wishes & all our love to your family. Jim was the type of man that leaves imprints on the souls of everyone he meets! His attitude always reflected the type of person he was...We truely enjoyed his presence. Please let us know if there's anything we can do for any of you... Be strong-I know it's hard but that's what he would want for everyone, it won't always be easy but only time will heal the wounds of your hearts.. And just know that you're never in alone in how you feel. So, Keep your heads up-he'll always be with you. Thanks for all the smiles you have brought us! Best of love & luck- Our thoughts are with you!- Love, Leia (& Stevie) from Jenny!!

"Jim you're a gem"! Always so much fun to talk too. So surprising in his wit and knowledge of so many different things...music, art, fixing things up and tearing things down. My thoughts and prayers will be with his wife and children, family and friends, whose loss must be immeasurable. I know that we will miss his laugh, good spirit, and wisdom. I feel truly blessed to have known him, even for such a short time.

I had only known Jim for some short time but his presence has left a big imprint on my life. He was always so kind, funny, helpful and sincere at work. We would always talk about Jenny Craig and the importance of living life to the fullest. I will miss him very and it saddens me that i never formally got to say goodbye to him. I give my sincere regrets and condolences to his loving family
