Joellen Brown was my first English professor at Bryn Mawr College. She changed my life. Every week my classmates and I met with her individually to discuss the paper written that week. She was brilliant and what she imparted to us was exactly what I most needed. I had not believed I could major in English. It was as if Joellen found the door in a wall for me, and handed me the key. There was no way I could adequately thank her. Luckily I found her on LinkedIn in 2018 and enjoyed a warm exchange of messages which I treasure. I wrote to her again in August when Toni Morrison died because our class had been visited by Toni at the college and I was thinking so strongly of that time. Then I began to be concerned that maybe something had happened to prevent her writing back. That's when I found Joellen's obituary in the Inquirer. I want to express my deepest sympathy to Joellen's sister-in-law and nieces and to all her loved ones. To her nieces: I have 2 nieces myself and I know how important nieces are. Peace be with you all.

Joellen and I were suite mates at OWU sophomore year. Her room was always the gathering place for anyone wanting to talk about life, the world, or whatever. And of course,to eat brownies. I was lucky enough to meet up with her a few years ago in Philadelphia. She was a very special person.

I was in an honors history class with Joellen at West High School. I hardly knew her but hearing of her passing truly saddens me. My condolences to her family and friends.

My condolences to family and friends. Take time to grieve and celebrate a life well-lived. The loss of a loved one is truly difficult no matter how long we have them with us, but remember Almighty God promises to be near to all those calling on him (Psalm 145:18)
