John Handley Obituary
1948 - 2018
John N. Handley lost his life while waving an illegal fire arm around……just kidding. We all know he liked to tell jokes. If you hadn't heard that one, then you didn't know him very well. John, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on August 16, 2018. John is survived by his amazing care taker and devoted wife of fifty-one years, Barb. He was a loving father to Jonda and Jody Handley (Jeff and his daughters). Proud PAP to Brittany Vanderpool (Ryan), Gracie Handley, and Jonathon Decker. He is further survived by his brother, Loel Handley (Karen); dear friend, Keith Gatwood; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Laverne Handley and brother Robert Handley. John was a loving father, husband, grandfather and a stranger to no one. John loved drag racing and had a passion for building one of a kind automobiles. He had many projects featured in highly published magazines throughout the years. He was the proud owner of Southwest 4x4 for over twenty years. He was a legend of his own kind. He was a Vietnam War veteran and was proud to have served his country. He lived life to the fullest. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8pm Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Newcomer SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, August 20, 2018 at the funeral home followed by military honors. My deepest sympathy to the Handley family on John's passing. Growing up in Harrisburg, it just seemed that John was always a part of my life. Especially when we were in the same class at Harrisburg Elementary: my memory is that generally he and I were the tallest kids in the class, so we ended up sitting or standing in the last row, or at the end of the line together. He always had a quick wit and a funny thing to say. Later, after I was married and moved away, I could count on seeing John at Homecoming, visiting at my parents' garage sales, making fun observations of life. I know he will be missed by all.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. John and I attended Harrisburg Elementary school through the 8th grade. I will always remember him chasing me with worms on the days it rained at school. He was quite a character.

Jonda and Jody, sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I can remember him driving up Harrisburg pike in his cars,and you would know it was him, just by the things that he drove. My Dad was from that generation to and loved his cars. I can imagine how your Dad was and how hard of a time this maybe for your family. Your entire family are in my thoughts during this time .
