John Lauritsen Obituary

LAURITSEN John Lauritsen, age 66, died July 14, 2005, having lived with humor, strength, and dignity throughout a prolonged illness. After earning a B.A. from Case Western Reserve University, he was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to attend The Ohio State University. While there, he earned a Ph.D. in English Literature and received the Distinguished Teaching Award twice. Throughout his career, he worked tirelessly for mental health organizations, most recently as CEO of the Mill Center in Marysville. He contributed further through professional activities, including being the former President of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency and a member of the Board of Syntaxis Youth Homes. John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeannette; sisters, Joan Lauritsen, Betty Stacey, and Marcia Holbrook; brother-in-law, Philip Holbrook; nephews, Seth and Eric Morehouse and John and Michael Holbrook; and many beloved friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 19 at 1 p.m. at RUTHERFORD CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio, followed by burial at Union Cemetery and a reception at the Lauritsen's home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or The Wellness Community, 5500 Frantz Road, Suite 115, Dublin, Ohio 43017.
