John Phillips Obituary

Phillips John D. "Jack" Phillips, 87, passed away peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital Hospice Unit on Sunday, July 10, 2016. He was a dedicated member of St. Leo and later St. Mary Catholic parishes, a proud lifelong "south-ender" and a kind and generous friend to many. Jack served for 31 years as a Columbus Fire Department paramedic and was very proud to have been one of the initial firefighters to staff the Ohio State University HeartMobile. He often said that he enjoyed every single day of his service and treasured the friendships and memories from that time of his life. In his retirement he enjoyed renovating and managing real estate properties, cheering for OSU and the Cincinnati Reds, traveling, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with friends. He was a valued member of the Brothers Club, Firefighters' VFW, Shamrock Club and 4S Club. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Grace Phillips, and beloved wife Edna. He is survived by his grateful children, Judy Schmitz and David (Ingrid) Phillips; wonderful grandchildren, Nicole Phillips, Shannon (Ryan) Gallatin, and Joe (Tara) Schmitz; precious great grandchildren, Quinn Gallatin and Bodie and Maya Schmitz; brothers, Gary and Pat (Patty) Phillips; sister, Ann Anderson; and many nieces; nephews; cousins (the Duckworth clan); and friends. Family and friends received Tuesday, July 12 from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the MAEDER QUINT TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S. High St. Prayer service will begin at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13 at St. Leo Church, 221 Hanford St. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Nicholas Droll celebrant. Judy and Dave,
I am so sorry to hear of this. I loved Jack and always see him with a smile,no matter how uncomfortable he was. Yet I always remember how responsible he was in the way he handled himself when needed. Know you will miss him, but please know I understand and you and he are in my prayers.
