John Joseph Schmeitzel

SCHMEITZEL John Joseph Schmeitzel, 84, of Apex, NC, passed away peacefully Friday, September 10, 2010. He was born in Columbus, OH to Raymond A. Schmeitzel and Geraldine Wise Schmeitzel. John served his country honorably in the U. S. Navy and the National Guard of Ohio during WWII. He worked with Nationwide Insurance until his retirement in 1983. He was preceded in death on March 2, 2010 by the light of his life for 62 years Mary Helen Jewett Schmeitzel. John is survived by his daughters, Karen Hilton (Ron McCool), Peggy Wilson (Scott) and Dianne Bauman (Gary); son, Allen Schmeitzel; grandchildren, Braden Kane Bauman, John Louis Schmeitzel and Denise Lynn Schmeitzel; and sister, Donna Korson. He is also survived by his aunt, Bette Wing; nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Harry Furner. John's patience, quiet strength and generosity of spirit have guided his family. His love of life showed in his creativity and adventuresome nature, and most would say he never met a stranger. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at APEX FUNERAL HOME, 550 W. Williams St. Apex, NC. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Apex Funeral Home. John and Mary Helen will both be laid to rest in a graveside service in Delaware, OH at a later date.
