When I was a baby deejay, Smokin' Joe was a wonderful mentor and
co-worker in Syracuse at Y-94. I always kept track of his career, and it's moments like this that remind us, we need to keep CLOSER track of people before we lose them. Joe practiced the politics of kindness. He was a zealous member of the Kind Party.
Bye Joe.

Wow. I don't know what to say but must chime in. I met Joe once, he at QFM and me at a competitor station and what good vibes. I always trust first impressions and Joe's was a lasting one on me.
To the family - if you're anything at all like the Joe I met you too are loving caring people. For what it's worth all my best wishes. May you cherish all the positive moments.
Sincerely,
Joe Dawson

My deepest sympathies go to Joe's entire family. I have the fondest memories of Joe growing up in CT. From camping trips with the gang, cruising on our motor cycles all over CT, GHO after parties at his parents' house and trips to Syracuse NY. Joe was a great guy, could easily get along with anybody and was good at making people laugh. He will be missed by all that new him.

Joe the city of Columbus and the area where Q FM 96 could be heard will not be the same. Thanks for all the great times especially at The Columbus Square Bowling Palace. St. Peter's is waiting for you to play so iconic rock.

The more enriched a person makes our lives, the harder it is for us to let them go. For this reason, I know that saying goodbye to Joe "Show" Pasternak will be hard. I'm glad to have known him. I hope that the wonderful memories we all have of Joe, as well as the love and friendship we have around us, will support us through this time and help us to smile once more. His legacy will certainly live on.
My heart goes out to the family during this time.

So sorry for your loss, I did not know Joe personally but enjoyed hearing him on the radio. My wife did call in once and ask him a question about the background of a song he played and he took the time to explain the meaning of the song. That just echo's what I have been hearing on the radio this week. No one knows why angles on this earth are taken so young, and Joe was a true angle. We will miss him and we will pray for the family, friends and listeners whose life are greatly improved having known him.

Joe Show-You were QFM96. I remember listening to you on my way home from work everyday. It was so evident that you loved Columbus and it's people. May you find peace and your family find solace in how much you were loved. It won't be the same without you. Godspeed. You'll be missed.

The last time I saw Joe was probably about a year ago. I had just finished eating at Jack & Benny's, and had gone across the street to buy cigarettes. I crossed back and was walking to my car when, all of a sudden, I hear from behind me "Adam!" I turned around, and who should be there but Joe Show. He was eating in Jack and Benny's and ran outside when he saw me walk by. We hadn't seen each other in a year or more (since the Name That Tune I regularly attended had been canceled) , but he just wanted to say hi and give me a hug. I was very touched by this, especially that he remembered my name, which was never his strong suit! :) It made me feel very loved, and I know that he knew that I loved him, too! I miss you already, Joe Show. QFM doesn't sound the same.

My sincerest condolences to the Pasternak family on this devastating loss. I was blessed to have gotten to work with Joe early on in his career at 94Rock in Syracuse and from there it was always a pleasure to see what a radio icon he became in Columbus. Always a smile, always so upbeat and forever in our hearts. You will be greatly missed Joe.

Joe is the most truly amazing person I've ever met and he touched my life, heart, and soul in ways I couldn't begin to articulate. He was the most genuine, authentic, unpretentious, funny, sincere, empathetic, kind, and caring person I know and I'm so very blessed to have known him. His ever present sense of awe and childlike wonder was one of his most endearing qualities, along with is exemplary work ethic. His transition saddens me beyond belief and I will miss him greatly...more than words could ever convey. I am devastated over the loss; still in a state of shocked disbelief and existential sadness.
I love you, Joe. You are truly a great man; one-of-a-kind and an inspiration to us all. The world suffers a great loss in your passing.

As we always seemed to bond at RUSH concerts over the past years, I feel its appropriate to use their lyrics now...'and when I heard that he was gone, a shadow crossed my heart'. A decent man, and a brother of the leaf, has left us. Until next time Joe. I'll bring the sticks.
