Joseph Scott Obituary

SCOTT Joseph E. Scott, 82, transcended into immortality on Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the OSU Medical Center. Joseph dedicated his life to the spiritual healing of people struggling with addiction, recovery and life issues. Born July 16, 1925, in New York City, he graduated from the New York Evening High School and Germain School of Photography. A World War II veteran in the U.S. Marines, he served from 1943-1946 as part of the South Pacific invasion force. He worked in various foundries as a brass, aluminum and iron worker in New York, Connecticut and Ohio. In 1964, he became an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He was called to be interim pastor at the Apostolic Church on 25th St. in Belair, and then at the Friendship Apostolic Church in Akron. Through God's inspiration, he founded and pastored the Ebenezer Apostolic Assembly from 1973 to 1981 in Akron, where he also served as a parole officer for the Adult Parole Authority. Joseph moved to Columbus and united with the New Covenant Believers Church under the pastorate of Bishop Howard Tillman. He again served as a case aide for the Defense Supply Center Columbus. He also worked as a case manager at Fairhaven and Alvis House. Joseph founded an Alcoholics Anonymous group in Bexley and served in many capacities in the AA organization. He believed in "taking it one day at a time." He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Scott and daughter Pamela Glover. He leaves to celebrate his life and accomplishments, his daughters, Elder Delma Bell of Cincinnati and Bernadine (Ricardo) Amos of Akron; son, Elder Lance (Aletta) Darden of Reynoldsburg; his special granddaughter and grandson, Natasha Danielle Glover and Joseph Emmanuel Glover, both of Columbus; 16 other grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of AA family and friends. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 30 between 10 a.m.-12Noon at New Covenant Believers Church, 3400 Kohr Blvd., with memorial services immediately following.
