Kurt Ayers Obituary

Ayers Kurt J. Ayers, D.D.S., of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on D-Day, June 6, 2017, at The Kobacker House. He was born September 12, 1951 in Akron, OH, son of the late Ted and Margaret (Womersley) Ayers. He graduated from Akron North High School in 1969, from Ohio State in 1973 with a B.A. in Anthropology and from The Ohio State College of Dentistry in 1977. Kurt had been a family dentist in Clintonville in Columbus since 1979. An active Christian, he has been a member of Indianola and Boulevard Presbyterian Churches, and a current member of Meadowpark Church of God. His other loves beyond family and church were geneology, camping, gardening, and sports (the Buckeyes!) A longtime history lover, he had been a member of the Brigade of the American Revolution since 1994, participating in many living history events. Having researched his family history since he was age 19, he is a registered descendant of the First Settlers of Ohio (through the Ohio Geneological Society) and he is a Son of the American Revolution (Hocking Valley Chapter). He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia (deVries) Ayers; son, Benjamin (Katie) Ayers; granddaughters, Emily and Eliana; step-mom, Joann Ayers of AZ; brother, Craig (Bonnie) of FL; sister, Lisa Ayers of Akron; mother-in-law, A. Katherine deVries; brother-in-law, David (Kristy) deVries; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by brother Andrew Ayers and fathers-in-law Norman L. deVries and Donald Curtis. Much gratitude goes to the OSU Ross Heart Hospital and the Kobacker house for their excellent care of Kurt. Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 9 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. Private family burial will be held. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at Meadowpark Church of God, 2425 Bethel Road, Columbus, OH 43220, Rev. Diane Thatcher officiating with visitation 1 hour prior. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Meadowpark Church of God, Indianola Presbyterian Church or the Kobacker House. On-line condolences www.rutherfordfuneralhome.com.

Cindy & Family, please accept our deepest sympathies on your loss. Dr Ayers was our family dentist for many years. Ben and my son are the same age and we would exchange stories over the years on our kids growing up. I could discuss any subject, especially history related topics with him. He will be deeply missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers---Phil 4:6,7

I am saddened by the news of Kurt's passing and send my condolences to the family. I regret that living so far a way, in the state of Delaware, that I will not be able too attend the funeral. I will always remember that Kurt was responsible for getting me started in the OHSSAR color guard. He was kind enough to lend me portions of his personal" Kit" which launched me forward to a rewarding involvement in the Hocking Valley Chapter OHSSAR. He will be missed.
