RHOADS Laurence Winton Rhoads, 95, Mount Vernon, formerly of Centerburg and Galena, passed away at his home November 22, 2010 surrounded by his family after a long battle with "old age" or as he often said "a case of just living too long". He was a decorated veteran including two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. A portion of his life and World War II experience was featured in the Mount Vernon News Veterans Day Week 2009. After returning from the war he was a grain and dairy farmer and later became an electrician. Retired at 70 years of age from the State of Ohio as a State Electrical Inspector. He was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and his antique Ford tractor. Laurence will always be remembered for his humor, ready jokes and stories.
