Leopold Like Obituary

Like Leopold "Lee" W. Like, M.D., returned to his eternal home on February 14, 2013. Lee was born April 12, 1930 in New Bavaria, OH and was a 1948 graduate of Holgate High. He graduated from the University of Dayton and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He practiced general and thoracic surgery in Lima until his retirement in 1990. Lee is predeceased by his parents L. Herman and Mary (Leopold) Like, an infant son and his brother Donald. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sue; his devoted children, Kim (William) McDevitt of Columbus, Ohio, Lisa (Matthew) Stokely of Beavercreek, Ohio, Anne (David) Nartker of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sara (Thomas) Woods of Frankfort, Illinois; and eight cherished grandchildren, Meghan and Mallory McDevitt, Andrew and Allison Stokely, Elizabeth Nartker, Jack, Samantha, and Ben Woods. He was a member of The OSU Presidents Club, UD Golden Flyers, and was a life member of the Ohio State Alumni Association, and an avid Buckeye. In 1999, he was the recipient of a kidney transplant for which he owed a dear family an enormous debt of gratitude. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Todd Pesavento and the Ohio State Transplant Center staff. There will be a Celebration of Life service in Naples on February 22 at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ. There will also be a funeral Mass in Ohio at a future date. Donations may be made in Lee's memory to the Dr. Lee Like and Sue R. Like Transplant Education Fund at the Ohio State University, the Leopold Like Family Scholarship Fund at the University of Dayton, Georgeson House at Avow Hospice of Collier County, or to the charity of the donor's choice. I am so very thankful that I came to you when my health was going bad. I have told you before that I always felt that you saved my life! You found the cancer cells and ordered a DNC. Then a hystarectomy. Thank you for being a wonderful Doctor and an Amazing person. God Bless you! You will be missed greatly!

Dr. Like helped to save my life in 1979 when I was crushed in a machining accident at Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant. He was a great Dr. and a great man. I am certainly grateful that God put him on the Planet to help others. There are 2 children and 7 grandchildren that would not be here without his help. Thanks Doc. God Bless and Rest in Peace.
