Lois Finkel Obituary

Finkel Lois E. Finkel, age 85, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed on to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2015. Lois was born December 28, 1929 in Charleston, West Virginia but raised in Marietta, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert J. Finkel, her brother Orvie O. Casto Jr. (Air Force, WWII), and parents Orvie and Lydia (Howard) Casto. She is survived by her son, Chris (Mary); daughter, Connie (Stephen) Bird; son, Rob (Lori); daughter, Jan (Bob) Paynter; son, Tom (Karla); daughter, Sue O'Sail; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, along with many dear friends. Lois graduated from Marietta High School and the Bustin School of Cosmetology. She then started her career at Ohio Bell Telephone Company. Lois met the love of her life and relocated to Columbus, until they outgrew their home and moved to Gahanna, Ohio where she has resided since 1964. After 28 years of service she retired from Ohio Bell and was proud to be a Telephone Pioneer. Lois' life was characterized by her Christian faith, love for others and sweet disposition. She was a lovely and gracious woman who cherished her family above all else. She served faithfully beside her husband in helping those less fortunate. They were devoted to volunteering at various organizations including St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Matthews Food Pantry and Ohio Food Bank, just to name a few. Lois was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4719 Ladies Auxiliary and a dedicated member of St. Matthew The Apostle Church in Gahanna. Arrangements are being handled by the SHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, Ohio, where visitation will be Thursday, February 26, at 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew The Apostle Church, 807 Havens Corners Rd., Gahanna, Ohio. Fr. Ryan Schmit Celebrant. Lois' entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 9571 N. High St., Lewis Center, Ohio. All are welcome, following the entombment, at St. Matthews Church for fellowship and a luncheon to celebrate Lois' life. No sweeter Lady and a second Mom to me and my brothers. We spent so many weekends and summers with cousins that were more like siblings. Will miss Aunt Lois and all of you today, but know that you remain in my thoughts, prayers and heart. Memories never leave our hearts!! Love you all.

My best memories growing up were when I lived across the street from the Finkel's in Gahanna. Mrs. Finkel was such sweet, lovely lady. So blessed to have known her. So sorry for your loss. Love, Helen Russer
