I cannot believe it’s been 10 years. Mark (as well as his father Dan) impacted my life more than words can say. As a coach, teacher, father figure and friend, his influence remains to this day. I miss you coach, hope I made you proud.

Jenn: I think of you and your family more often than you can imagine -- and this week my heart and thoughts go out to you even more. I'm hoping the sadness and emptiness have subsided as much as possible, and that your heart is now filled with great memories.

I am deeply saddened, as I just learned of Mark's passing. I was a football teammate of his at Wittenberg and was in his brother John's class there. I admired him then and looking back from today, I can see what a fine example of a man he has been for his family and so many others. May God provide you with His comfort and strength in the time ahead.

To the Barren Family, I knew Mark thru his son who I helped coach in baseball one summer. I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I had a great deal of respect for Mark. Mark always had time to stop and talk, our conversations were almost always about youth sports. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Barren Family,
We are very sorry about what happened. My duaghter was in David's class this year. She said David was always proud of his dad. He will be missed very much around the Columbus Academy comunity. We need more people in the world like Mark. He will always be remebered by this school. We all need to remeber that life is to short to sit around and be a pain. Mark was the opisite of that!

Jen and family; I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My mum and dad were just in the UK for a visit and mum was updating me on your family and work. I was thinking back to days of sleep-overs in (then) your parents' lovely 'Old Worthington' home. I know those thoughts will be far from your mind now. I am so sorry to hear about Mark. With the Boston Bruins win last night it made me reflect back to 6th grade when Mark was a big fan of them. As a class mate of Mark's from Southwestern School, I have fond memories of him. He certainly captivated the room & the people around him. I know many of us were truely saddened by his loss. Our thoughts are with the Barren family.

Mark's legacy runs deep. My significant other, Brad Mullins, shares so many wonderful stories about him and his good works. Dear Barren Family,
I am soo sorry to hear of the passing of Mark. I was fortunate to be coached by Mark and his Dad during my senior year at GA. I learned not only athletics, but life lessons! Being around the coaching fraternity and being in education, I have come to find just how respected Mark was not only as a coach but as an educator and as a person. While I never had the good fortune of knowing him personally, knowing members of your family, as well as hearing people as they recall Mark, it is no wonder that he was held in such high regards. Jen, Jamie, David, and Andrew,
You have all been in our thoughts and prayers. The early days of working as co-athletic directors are memories of laughter and fun. I couldn't get over how organized he was with his work. Boy could he talk!!! There were days that I remember trying to escape from the barn and he just kept talking and talking and talking! I feel blessed that I had the chance to work side by side with him! He will be missed dearly by all.

Many years ago, as a newly single mother of a toddler, I worked with Mark's mother Catherine. Though I never met Mark, I knew Catherine to be the type of mother I hoped to be. Catherine, I remember you fondly, and as the mother of a now adult child, I am so very sorry for your loss.
