Mary Bach Obituary

BACH Mary Lou Bach, born December 1928, passed peacefully on March 23, 2012 at the age of 83 as a result of Alzheimers Disease at the Emerald Crossing Clare Bridge Memorial Care. Preceded in death by her mother Marguerite Baughman Bach and father Harold Bach I, as well as pets Chirp, BooBoo, Waddle and Snoodle. She is survived by her best friend and companion, Jennifer Elin; sister, Suzanne (Alex) Morrison, Los Osos, CA; brother, Harold (Margo) Bach Jr., Chicago, IL; nieces and nephews, Harold Bach III, Cheryl Bach, Diane McPherson, Mike (Suzanne) Morrison, Laurie (Joe) Tacheny, Patti (Richard) Stirling; beloved dogs, Wuzzy, Munchie and Tutti; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Thinking of you both at this time, remembering walking the flowered path in your yard and sitting in the house amongst the greenery watching the deer and chatting. May the good memories consume your thoughts and bring you peace. Hugs, Jenny & Michele

I graduated from WHS in 1960. Sam was a real inspiration to me both at WHS and Whetstone Rec. Center. Because of her devotion to girls athletics, Worthington Schools have wonderfully competitive programs, today. May those, who follow, continue to display her class, in teaching good sportsmanship and pride in our schools.

Being a teenager is such a difficult time. What a blessing it was for us who knew and loved Biss Mach to have her in our lives during that time. Since hearing of her passing I have been thinking of her and her impact on my life. It isn't so much about stories or events, but of a presence she had in all our lives. The strength and kindness she showed, the “guff” corrections when I went too far, that damn smile of hers when she was happy with me. Bottom line is that what she thought and felt about me is very important to me, then and now. Thank you Biss Mach and you always had and always will have all my love.

Miss Bach made P.E. so fun..I loved P.E....not that I was great...or even average... at any one sport....but she made me feel that I was Olympic material...so I tried hard to live up to her expectations..and had great fun trying...heartfelt thoughts for Jennifer..Su Hartwig

When I was a child, I would come visit my Aunt Mary Lou for a month every summer. She had one of the first video cameras we had ever seen. She would take hours of movies of us kids doing really stupid things. Then she would pull out the projector and play them whenever we had company. Her car was always a convertible and she loved to ride around with the top down. We used to go to White Castle and Dairy Queen on a daily basis. Lots of good memories!

Ah that ornary twinkle and eye rolling, good one Jenny! I knew Mary Lou after she had retired from teaching. She and Jenny have such a love of the land and the natural gifts they were blessed with. The eagerness to share the wildflowers, the birds and the other critters in and out of the house made it a real treat to visit and spend time looking out the wildlife window together. My heart breaks for the loss and sadness for Jenny and the family and friends. She had a spirit and sense of caring that will live on for some time through Jenny and many others she knew and cared for. Especialy the many rescue Laso Apso dogs that were so very special to her. Warmly,

Mary Jones

Miss Bach was my P.E. teacher in the early seventies. Because I had a mild disability, P.E. was always a dreaded class. But Miss Bach introduced me to individual sports like archery and fencing that I could master somewhat successfully. I will always appreciate her kindness and patience. I am ending a 30-year teaching career this year myself and I am ever mindful that teachers like Miss Bach helped set me on my path. She has left quite a legacy.Thank you for sharing her with us. She was one of a kind! I remember watching my sister play basketball and a bunch of us were razzing the refs..the ladies played half court back then, three and three..I think Phyllis from OSU was one of the refs....Mary Lou was having none of it from us punks! She chased us down off the collpased bleachers and told us to behave..We were to treat the refs and the visiting team with respect..that is what good sportsmanship is all about!

I have nothing but good memories of Miss Bach (or "Sam" as we called her) although I was the furthest thing from athletic in school - think Les trying to climb the gym rope in Funky Winkerbean. However, Sam only asked that you give your best effort. I had to laugh reading about that ornery twinkle that she would get in her eyes. She must have rolled her eyes a million times over some of my efforts. My sincere condolences to Jennifer and her family.
