Melendez...
It has almost been one year since you have been gone. We all miss you so much and I personally am looking forward to the day when we all meet up again.
I know that I have said this to you before but I will say it again here. I know we had our issues when we were younger but we were always able to come together and resolve them. At the end of the day we would always be there for each other and love each other even stronger.
I love you my dear sister and miss you so much. You were one of the few people that truly knew me and what I stood for and vice-verse...
You will always be in my heart and I will miss you always. I love you Mae-Mae...

Melendez,
You do not know how often I think about you. "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal." This experience has been so difficult for all of us - still somewhat unbelief.
Mae Mae, I can remember all the times we had together. When you were young and would spend the weekends with me, I felt like you were like my child. We shop on Saturday for church on Sunday. And it was YOU that lead me to First Church and I never hesitated to tell anyone when they ask, "Yes, a child did lead," just as the Word said.
And as you got older, I remember the times you would perm my hair - telling me, "Auntie, you need to be still and stop jumping around." Girl, you know those perms sometimes burned my head.
But I was most proud when you rededicated your life to Christ - and you did not tell nobody. It was between you and God. It was a good thing that you did, Mae Mae. So when the trumpet sounds, and God establishes His Kingdom, we will be together again in the New Jerusalem. Until then, Love,
Austin Truss

Dear Melendez,
I know you've passed and I wish i had the chance to tell you how much I looked up to you. I wish the best life for you when I didn't even know what the "best life" was. Being so naive at 18 and actually growing up now has made me realize that life is short. I know that (chuckle) in my childhood Mae-Mae and I would cower in fear by her dominant personality. I am extremely sad to lose the woman that was my protector. Mae-Mae helped me... She helped me understand that Life is God given but not supernatural and we have been our time when we depart. We have to continue to live a God fearing life that way we can be in the place we desire.. and I'm glad that Melendez protected me that I can now learn to protect those that I love..

Wow..it has been years since I last saw "Mae Mae" and "Mondo", as we all grew up together on Stambaugh and Elwood. I remember how outspoken Mae Mae was even as a little girl, and I used to say to myself " she rolls her eyes more than I do"!! She always had that infectious smile, and those adorable cheeks, and you could NEVER stay mad at her!! It really hurts to know that someone you grew up with is no longer here, especially knowing that you didn't get the chance to see them evolve into the beautiful individual that everyone had grown to love. My dad, aunts and uncles grew up with Kim and her sibblings and Mr. and Mrs. Bibb were ALWAYS mentors to myself and the other youth in our community. You all are in my thoughts and prayers and even though it has been years, the love never changes. I love you all and please contact me if you need ANYTHING.
RIP Mae Mae

As we walk through a flower garden, it is only the most beautiful and fragrant flowers that draw our attention. These are the flowers we choose to put in a vase for others to adore.
As we choose flowers to send to those we love, we look for the flowers with the most vibrant colors and the sweetest smelling fragrance to fill our bouquet to express our deepest feelings of love.
In the garden of life, Melendez, was that kind of flower; vibrant, sweet and beautiful. God choose her for His very own heavenly bouquet. Now, even the angels in heaven know what a rose looks and smells like as they walk the streets of gold with Melendez.
The precious thing about flowers is that even after they are gone, we can press their petals in a memory book, or even capture the essence of their frangrance in a perfume.
Hold dear to your heart the petals of joy, and love that Melendez has filled your life with.
Melendez is basking in the glory of the Son, where her flower will never wilt or fade.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
