Michael Bloch Obituary

Bloch Michael David Bloch, age 79, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born on April 9, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. Preceded in death by Dorothy and Harold Bloch. Loving father of Allison (Steve) Gold, Jennifer (Steve) Skok, Laura (Jeff) Kepes and John (Alicia) Bloch. Proud grandfather of Alexandra, Katie and Jack Gold, Ryan, Nicholas and Caroline Skok, Drew and Julia Kepes, Henry and Charlie Bloch. Also survived by Diana Marx Bloch, loving mother of their children. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1961 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He founded Michael's Finer Meats and Seafoods in 1962 and grew it into one of the nation's leading meat and seafood purveyors. In 1992, Michael received the Lifetime Purveyor Service Award from the Ohio Restaurant Association. Member of: Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, Young Presidents Organization, World Presidents Organization. Former Board of Trustee member of Columbus School for Girls and Columbus Academy. He chaired for many years The Up on the Roof event benefitting The James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University, He was instrumental in helping fund the new James Cancer Hospital in which a rooftop garden, executive suite and cafe were named in his honor. Also a proud member of the Pay it Forward Society for The Ohio State University Athletic Department. He also supported numerous charitable organizations. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, golf, history, The Ohio State University and all things Buckeyes. He was a quintessential entrepreneur and mentor to many whose lives will be forever touched by him. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at Temple Israel, 5419 E. Broad St. Interment will be held privately. Memorial reception following at The Columbus Club, 181 E.
