Michael Graham Obituary

Graham, Michael
1954 - 2021
Sports fanatic, globetrotter, euchre aficionado and retired high school history teacher, Michael Patrick Graham lived life to the fullest until the very end. On July 11, 2021 he left us with a cup of coffee and a morning read close at hand, while on the shores of Norris Lake surrounded by family. Mike's adventurous spirit knew no bounds, from his childhood days racing through his Dayton neighborhood alongside his brothers and sisters – Tim, Dan, Pat, Maureen and Mary Lynn – to Varsity soccer at The Ohio State University, from serving in the Peace Corps to working and coaching abroad. "Munch" was salt of the earth, and he treated every person he encountered with empathy and kindness. He impacted countless lives during his earthly stay, but none more so than those of his children — Maggie May and Ian Michael — and his forever partner Rita Ann. Mike will walk alongside them always. Same goes for Mike's family and close friends, who will fondly remember his stories and how his laughter filled a room. All 66 of his years were filled with color, so, for those joining the family on Wednesday, July 21, please honor Mike's life by wearing your favorite color to help us celebrate. A Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church at 2 p.m. ET, with libations and storytelling to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Columbus Park of Roses Foundation ([email protected]). Gezuar, Dad!

I just learned of "Mr Graham´s" death, 5 years late. I just wanted to let you know that he was my absolute favorite teacher! He was so kind and we had fun pranking each other. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." He had that quote in his classroom and I could always tell that he really tried to live by that. Now, I have a coffee cup with that quote and I think of him every time I use it. I am inspired to be more intentional to apply that to my own life. May God bless you and your Family!

Got to the wake, fortunately. Bob Storey, the rugby club communicator, let me know. Saw Rita first thing. I knew I was in the right place.

I remember Mike´s running form: compact and efficient. He played fullback. He wasn´t any better at tackling than I was, but he could kick. And he could goal-kick! From the touch-line! And left-footed!

I guess an opportunity to reminisce about rugby should not be wasted. Rugby is a place where Mike´s and my life intersected.

I´m glad for that, Mike. Cheers.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr Grahams passing. I was one of the many soccer players at BH that he transformed into a tennis player. He pushed me to get better and taught me how to relax and enjoy the moment. His sense of humor and love for life was contageous. I will never forget him showing up to practice with his old little wooden racket and still making us struggle to keep up. I still play tennis to this day and think of coach when i play. May you rest in peace coach.
