Michael M. Mastel

1920 - 2017

Mastel Dr. Michael M. Mastel, 97, of Gahanna, passed away March 17, 2017 at St. Ann's Hospital. Born in Hague, ND on January 30, 1920 to the late James and Margaret Mastel, he served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a surgery technician. He spent time as a physician in Baltimore, Ohio from 1950-1985. Mike was the ninth of 13 children and is survived by siblings, Peter and Eva. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Clara, Valentine, Frank, Barbara, Jacob, Kasmer, Lawrence, Anne and George, first wife Doris Mastel, stepson Hubert Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle L. Mastel; son, James M. (Marcia) Mastel of Spring, TX; stepson, Marc D. (Mary) Perdue; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Mike was an avid golfer, hunter and musician. He played saxophone until his 90s, in many bands over the years, throughout central Ohio. During his tenure as a physician in Baltimore, Ohio, he delivered many babies. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna.
