Mildred Lund Obituary

LUND Mildred Carlene Lund, age 97, of Dublin, lost her battle to dementia and passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mildred was born November 19, 1912 in Tamaroa, Illinois to the late Linneaus and Pearl Johnston. Following high school, Mildred moved to Chicago where she obtained her first job working for the railroad. While in Chicago, she met Raymond Lund at the Aragon Ballroom, and they eventually married on April 23, 1938. Mildred and Raymond moved around OH, due to Raymond's job as a TWA executive, and eventually settled in Columbus, where their son, Dennis, attended high school. Mildred happily accepted the role of mother and spent the rest of her career devoted to her family. Raymond retired in 1972 and they moved to Mesa, AZ,where he later passed away on October 21, 1973. Mildred made many friends and was involved in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Rebekah Circle, and The WOW'S Group (widows or widowers). Mildred eventually moved back to Columbus to be close to her family, and has been living with her grandson and grandson's fiancee, Ron and Heidi, for the past year. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond, son Dennis, and brothers Paul and Forrest Johnston. Mildred will be missed by her grandson, Ron Lund; Ron's fiancee and Mildred's loving caregiver, Heidi Briggs; daughter-in-law, Esther Lund; step-granddaughter, Angie Duprey, and her daughter, Danielle Sullivan; Heidi's parents, Joanne and Don Driscoll; and her faithful companion, Boomer. Mildred had a strong faith in God, loved to travel the world, and was always happy, loved to laugh, positive, and a very appreciative lady. Mildred made friends around the world, impacted everyone she met, and cherished every relationship she made. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. Rev. Dennis Barnhart, officiating. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. Millie meant a lot to our family. I enjoyed visiting her in Arizona. I also enjoyed our woman's trip to Ireland to go shopping. I know you will miss her very much. I am sorry I couldn't make it to the viewing today. I hit a deer with my car yesterday.
