Morris Stamm Obituary

Stamm Morris Fearin Stamm, resident of Westerville, OH for over 50 years, passed away November 21, 2013 at St. Ann's Hospital. A graduate of Washington High School, Wilmington College, BA in Education and BS in Biology and Chemistry, and earned a MS from University of North Carolina School of Public Health in Health Education. He was a Health Educator for Ashland, OH Health Department, then for the Ohio Department of Health Southeast District Office in Athens, OH and in Columbus, OH for 30 years. Morris was a consultant to city and county Departments of Health throughout the State, developed programs in health education and assessment and was director of the Risk Reduction program at retirement in 1991. He served as president of the Ohio Public Health Association, and on committees in the organization and received many State and National awards for program development in public health education during his career. U.S. Army veteran serving in Japan during the Korean War. Long time member of the Church of the Messiah in Westerville where he was a member of the Joy Class and served on several church boards. He was also a member of Westerville Garden Club and served on the Westerville Shade Tree Commission. Morris was a reader, a gardner, a lifetime student of history, a loving supporter and advisor to his family and a wonderful friend to just about everyone he met. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn King Stamm; children, Elizabeth Jean "Jeanie" (Steven) Katovich of St. Paul, Minnesota, John (Aneeza Pasha) Stamm of Kathmandu, Nepal and Mary Ellen (Thomas) Berher of Westerville; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Katovich, Erik Steven Katovich, Taali Caroyln Stamm, Tessa Meredith Stamm, Sola Tamara Stamm, Tyler Morris Gwonkama Stamm, Suleiman King Pasha Stamm, Lana Marie Berher and Amy Cynthia Berher; niece, Alice Stamm (Mark) Beaty and their sons, Christian, and Adam Beaty of Bellingham, Washington; and relatives throughout the country, especially, in Kentucky where his parents grew up. Preceded in death by his parents John Frederick and Augusta Mae Fearin Stamm, brother Ralph Stamm and sister-in-law Patricia Behm Stamm. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, OH, Sunday 2-4 p.m., where service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. with visitation 1 hour before the service. Tim Pressler, officiating. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, Box 57, Friendship, OH 45630, c/o Joyce Dalton.
