Many of us called her Mom. That is exactly who she was. Our extra Mom. She not only was my favorite teacher, but one of my favorite people. Her care for her students and passion for her profession made her a truly one of a kind educator. Thousands of former students were blessed that she touched their lives. I am confident that she is now directing a chorus of angels. May they be easier to wrangle than the teenagers who surrounded her for decades.
I will miss seeing your smiling face and running into you at BWHS. Know that your life was a gift to many, including me. Love ya, Mom.

You know that one teacher who really impacted your life? The one who made you feel valued? The one who looked out for you? Mrs. Essman was that teacher for me.
I was lucky enough to sit in her choir room all four of my years at Watterson. She was incredibly supportive and caring and encouraged everyone, no matter the level of their natural talent.
My mother passed away my junior year, and Mrs. Essman took the time to look out for me. She wasn't overbearing, but I always knew she was there. Throughout the year and a half that followed, she gave me things to look forward to, encouraged me to keep striving, and helped me to cope and heal. She had a *profound* impact on my life.
I offer my sincerest condolences and hopes for peace to her family and loved ones.
