Peggy McGregor Obituary

Peggy McGregor, who lived a full life distinguished by work, service, laughter, optimism, love and joy, died peacefully on December 6, 2014 with her three daughters by her side. Peggy was born in Caldwell, Ohio to Dr. Archie G. McGregor and Gertrude (Minnich) McGregor. More than just her birthplace, Caldwell was the hometown that nurtured Peggy's vibrant spirit and laid the foundation for a remarkable journey enriched by time spent in Okinawa, Columbus, Upper Arlington, Boston, West Palm Beach, and Minneapolis. A proud member of the Caldwell High School Band and a lifelong music lover, she studied at Miami University and received her bachelors degree from Ohio University. Starting as a paper girl at age 11, Peggy continued her passion for sales and went on to work for a variety of companies, enthusiastically sustaining her successful career until her retirement at the age of 72 as a senior sales executive with Cintas Uniform and Apparel. Peggy's accomplishments included introducing the first automated teller machine live on the NBC Nightly News, winning national sales contests and scoring a much coveted hole-in-one at a national sales meeting. A dedicated volunteer, she was a member of the Rotary Clubs of West Palm Beach and Minneapolis. Of all her achievements, Peggy was most proud of the three daughters she lovingly raised with Donald Williams, her husband of 57 years. In addition to Don, Peggy is survived by daughters, Wendy Williams, Betsy Williams (Peter Osler), Jennifer Maher (Liam Maher); grandchildren, Zane Osler, Wren Osler, Jackson Wheeler, Eleanor Wheeler; brother, James McGregor; sister, Julia Thornbury (John R. Thornbury); niece, Lee Thornbury; nephew, John Thornbury (Amy Tryon); cousin, Susan M. Carter (the late Beverly Carter); and dear friend, Robert McKay. Peggy, who's simple motto was "Love and Joy," was the heart of a close-knit extended family that includes many cherished relatives and friends. A celebration of Peggy's extraordinary life will take place Saturday, January 3rd at 1 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, Minneapolis. Many thanks to The Kenwood Retirement Community where Peggy enjoyed her independence and was loved. Contributions in Peggy's memory may be made to the Rotary Foundation or the N.C. Little Hospice, Edina, MN.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you for the loss of your Mother and friend. It was a privilege to have known her as a fellow Rotarian and a neighbor in PGA National. Our lives have been enriched by knowing her and having the pleasure of her smile and spirits.

To Peggy's daughters...she spoke of you often with great love, respect and admiration. I was blessed to have her in my life and I know many others who knew her felt the same and even those who did not felt this as she touched the lives of many without them even knowing her. What a wonderful person she was. The memories of her will always be special. Jim Sugarman, fellow West Palm Beach Rotarian
