Philomena Whalen Obituary

WHALEN Philomena J. "Phyllis" (nee Wall) Whalen, age 70, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2005 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, after an extended illness. Born Dublin, Ireland to Mary and Joseph Wall, she proudly became an American citizen in her 50's. Preceded in death by long time special friend Bernie Lang Jr. Survived by brothers and sisters, Frank (Janet) Wall, Noel Wall, Carmel Toler, Ann Mooney, Joan (Dermot) Purdy; and sister-in-law and friend, Mae Ellen Martin; children, Sandra Thompson, Colleen (Chris) Bibler (Findlay, OH), Carl (Doris) Whalen, Kelley (Angie) Whalen (Lancaster, OH); step-daughter Cindy Whalen; 19 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, The Lang family, Todd Neininger, Merrie Christmas-Kidd, Kathy and Bob Hanf, Don and Theresa Moore, Marg Hickman, the "Ladies from Wings Restaurant"; many other wonderful friends; and Little Dog, Amada. A loving mother and loyal friend known for her kindness and delightful sense of humor. Her greatest joys were time spent with family, friends and the friends of her children (whom she loved as her own), in addition to curling up with a good mystery with a "cuppa" tea and St. Mary's Parish German Village. Those whose lives she touched will be forever enriched. She will live in our hearts, souls and minds always. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2006 1 p.m. at EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH. The Family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Carroll and Dr. Tanzer, the staff at Mt. Carmel East Hospital and Palliative Care Unit for their care and devotion. www.evansfuneralhome.net

Dear Sandra, Colleen, Carl and Kelly,

Your mum was one in a million. Her sense of humour and laugh are something I'll never forget -- she always had a mischevious twinkle in her eye. I'm sure she'd rather you remember her with a smile than with a tear. She's at peace now, a guardian angel to look over all of you. God bless, Phyllis.

Love,

Viv
