Ray was an important mentor to my musical life. I first met him when he was a Student Teacher at Bexley High School with the bands and musical groups, of which I was a member in the 1950´s. He was a life long friend and "CheerLeader" throughout my musical pursuits. He was an extremely kind man and always friendly and good to my Mother. To those of us who worked with Ray through the teaming 1950´s and beyond, he was respected and dearly loved by those with whom he shared his musical talents and never ending sense of humor.

I was so sorry to hear of Rays passing, however, he is at peace and with the Angels and that is of comfort. I am a retired Columbus Schools Band/Orchestra Director. Ray was one of the 'Old Guard' Directors when I started in the late '70's. He was always willing to mentor and answer questions and I loved him for it! He showed many of us 'youngins' the ropes. Later I played with Ray for years in the OSU Alumni Band and in the Buckeye Brass. Always quick with a story, I learned many things about how things were done when I was a student at Columbus West with one of his contemporaries, Jim Hill. I pray for comfort for his Loved ones and in particular, Lucille. May God touch your heart with all the happy memories of Ray. God Bless, Aaron Jackson

Mrs. Castle and family:

I am sad to hear about Ray´s passing and offer you my deep condolences.

I have wonderful memories of our days and nights playing with Ray Massa´s Orchestra and our common allegiance with TBDBITL and the Alumni band. Ray had a great heart, a wonderful sense of humor and was an outstanding musician. I miss playing with and for him.

I pray you are comforted by our Lord at this difficult time and take solace knowing that Ray left this world a lot prettier and happier place with his musical gift.
