1993 - 2019
Reid Andrew Elsass, age 26, went to be with his Lord Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Columbus. Born March, 3 1993, in Columbus, to Rex and Laurie (Olson) Elsass, Reid was their first child and a cherished treasure. He was a loving friend to all; a special gift to those who knew him; a talented and creative writer, musician, and leader; and above all, a beautiful person - inside and out. Everyone that knew Reid would say that he had the warmest heart and the liveliest soul. He poured his love into so many people and brought a smile — and a hug — to almost every person that crossed his path. Now, Reid is embraced by his Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ, and now resides in God's good heaven. Today, Reid is free from pain and lives as a new creation in the Mansion of the Lord, and for that, we rejoice. Reid is survived by his father, Rex; mother, Laurie; brothers, Carter and Evan; paternal grandparents, Cy and Joyce Elsass; maternal grandparents, Andy and Janice Olson; uncles and aunts, Rick and Cheryl Elsass, Erik and Susan Olson; cousins, Jack and Sarah Olson; girlfriend, Kayleigh Knott; and pets, Token and Bodhi. A celebration and memorial of Reid's life will be held at Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Rd, Westerville, OH 43082, on Friday, June 7, 2019. Visitation is from 12-2pm with a service following at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Reid's name to Heartland High School, C/O Broad Street Presbyterian Church, 760 E. Reid has a way of conveying the most warmest of intention to everyone surrounding him. I cannot think of any instance where he did not have an outlook of joy, support and genuineness. He had a way of showing concern that made you felt truly seen and acknowledged. Always at the core of merry-making, Reid made it impossible to not enjoy being around him. He has been to me a great inspiration and a memorable friend who inspired me to push the envelope and dare to live. I've been contemplating our finest moments and our last meeting seems to be the focus of my thoughts a lot lately. I wish I'd stayed a little longer. Imma see ya soon Reid, put in a good word for me.

My daughter Grace and I met Reid during our trip to Thailand. We have such sweet memories of him. He was so caring and giving and we felt so privileged to share his testimony of his salvation. He was a bright light in this dark world. May all your family be comforted by God's peace and love, knowing that Reid is in Jesus' arms for eternity now. My condolences to all of Reid's family and friends. Reid was my neighbor on Rosslyn Avenue until a few months ago. He was always a well mannered and pleasant young man, and I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.
I am Jewish, so if I may, I would like to share the mourner's Kaddish.
Glorified and sanctified be G_d's great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May he establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire house of Israel speedily and soon; and say, Amen. Rex, Laurie, Evan and Carter I am deeply sorry for the loss of your son and brother Reid.
I recall the few times Reid came to Eastgate I connected very well with him. He was that type of guy who cared and was friendly. For years we continued to be friends on Facebook. I loved him and I followed his inspiring posts.
Rex I recall you telling me a story one night at Eastgate when you were leaving home for work and the little guy Reid ran after you crying as you drove off. That night I saw the love of a father and son. You were a loving father.
Laurie I looked at the gallery of your Facebook pictures with your boys Mother bear the love of a mom who deeply cared!
My words are not enough to comfort your family at this time. But I have this blessed assurance that the comforter the Holy Spirit will soothe that pain from your loss.
I will continue to pray for healing for you all from your brokenness.
One day if we hold on you will see Reid in glory. Remain in His peace and presence

I recently went through some old messages from back in the day. I had promised that I would send him a picture of something that I painted after I moved from Columbus. It was something I never did. The painting was supposed to be a willow. Tonight I sat down and worked on it. I kept thinking about how Reid, like a willow, was bent every which way and never broke. And while withstanding whatever life threw he still managed to check in on the people he cared for. The love he had for others and the love others for Reid will go on forever. Sending comfort and peace.
