I am a parent of a Darby student that knew Rico very well, I never met him personally but I can say that when I heard of his passing it was a moment of shock and disbelief. I know my son took it hard as well as many young people around Hilliard. My heart goes out to the Butler family and I hope that hearing all of the great stories about their son helps them smile a little more every day as they attempt to pick up the pieces after this devastating tragedy. I am so very sorry for your loss.

When I heard the news report the night Rico died, I simply cried! I didn't know him, but I'm a mother of two & couldn't imagine the pain his family would go thru. He sounded like an outstanding son & now he's playing on another winning team. GOD'S TEAM! May God Bless each of you.

To the Butler family, My name is Michelle Williams and I lost my son to a drowning in Lakeland Florida in Sept 09. His name was Chase and he was 20 years old. There are no words to explain the pain that you are now feeling. The only thing that I can say is to hold on to your faith in the Lord. It has been 9 monhts since my son passed and with each new day I wish that he was still here. Only time will help you to heal from this. From the reports he sounded like a wonderful son and I know that it is hard. I and my family will be praying for you as I for one know what you are going through. May God bless you and keep you in this time of grief.

my brother used to study with him. Rico was a great person always helped my brother with his Math class. After he told me about all this, I became so emotional and start crying. I'm actually crying right now.

Although I did not know your son personally, I was saddended to hear about this tragic story as I have a son the same age who plays football too. May you find strength in God to help you through the days and weeks ahead and have faith in knowing your will be re-united with your son in Heaven.

i would like to say my deepest sympothy go out to you....God may have taken your angel early but he needed great football player to start on the team....so now hilliard davidson high school has a new angel guiding and watching over each and everyone on that team......Rico you will live in many hearts but we all will meet again.... so have that stadium ready buddy

When I read the article about your son my heart dropped and prayers went out. May 31 2006 my son drowned at Alum Creek park, he was 17, he also played football. With the 4 year anniversay coming up, I thought another young person leaving to soon. My heart and prayers will be with you not only today but always.

my son seth and i watched rico, number 5 play football vs. pick central at gahanna this past season. regardless, he is a special man. my son and i were in shock of his passing. my son is 16 also, a sophomore at pick north who also plays football and he was so impressed with rico's athleticism and ability to succeed. our entire family, the gamby's, grieve with you and our prayers are with you. may gods eternal smile be upon rico, your family and friends. god bless. sincerely, larry, lisa, brittany, and seth gamby.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
